Motivation and Positivity

Transforming our lives into what we want them to be is a painful process.  We often not only have to deal with others assessments of what  we’re doing, but we also have to listen to those nasty little doubting voices in our own heads.  Those are the voices that want us to remain exactly as we are…why?  Because it’s easier.  Change is difficult.  However, it’s our choice whether we continue as we are, or we achieve our goals.  Always, always, choose change.  The joy, happiness and peace that we will eventually find will be worth the hard work.

The Joys of Organization

quotation-lynda-peterson-empowerment-healing-meetville-quotes-139326

Since I’ve been organizing and giving “stuff” away, I thought that I’d let you in on a secret.  Did you know that there is a joy to be found from having your house organized?  I know, it sounds too good to be true, right?  However, it is in fact, true.  Since part of my new plan for life includes such things as:  weekly meal planning, including shopping lists; filing paperwork as I open the mail (whoever even heard of that?); keeping my closets in the same organized way as I made them; and most of all, avoiding putting “stuff” on my dining room table, life is actually more pleasant. I don’t feel overwhelmed all the time.  Imagine that??

So, while I have some way to go, my house is on its way to becoming a pleasant place.  The best thing is, it’s not as stress-producing as it used to be.  I don’t feel as “out-of-control” as I did before, and I’m a happier person.  Apparently, disarray does me no good.  And, believe it or not, I am still a creative person.  As a matter of fact, I feel even more creative, since it takes less time to clean when you don’t have to move all the piles of “stuff” before you clean.  I can see that being organized is indeed a good thing!

Finding Serenity

Rainbow_at_strandhill-500-sm

Life can be pretty nuts.  Not only do we have to worry about what’s going on in our own lives, but there is also the human suffering that we all see every day – and a lot of that is not just somewhere “out there” in the world, but here at home.

So, what to do?  How can we deal with all of this?  The stress of just daily life can be overwhelming. How can we find some form of serenity?  There is only so much that we can do as individuals.  Yes, there are letters to write and petitions to sign, but how do we find a way to cope with the stresses that need to be dealt with?

Personally, at the end of the day I realize that there is only so much I can do to influence what’s going on “out there”.  I try to influence people who I come across each day.  If I think that someone who I don’t know looks really nice, I’ll tell them.  Just the look of surprise and happiness that I see on their faces lets me know that even though I may have hesitated to give them a compliment, it was the right decision.  And, although talking to a total stranger is hard for me, it was worthwhile.  So, let me know what you do to throw a little happiness out there in the world.  I’d love to hear your stories and advice.

Tears and Yoga

quote-crying-is-one-of-the-highest-devotional-songs-one-who-knows-crying-knows-spiritual-practice-kripalvananda-54-18-87

Okay, I can be funny here and say that Yoga does indeed make me cry.  When I realize that my lack of flexibility has gotten worse, since I stopped doing Yoga, I can cry with anger.  However, I’m talking about that crying that you do when you do a pose.  Something that opens up your flexibility and just suddenly you find yourself with tears running down your face.  That kind of crying.  I was wondering if that was a thing, since it’s happened to me twice this week, so I looked it up and discovered that I really am not insane.  It happens to other people too.  For some reason the hip-opening positions seem to start the tears for some people.

From what I’ve discovered, people tend to store emotions that they haven’t dealt with in their bodies.  Just think of how tense we become in stressful situations, and then we don’t totally relax after the situation has ended.  Later, when we stretch, those muscles relax and the tension is released, sometimes in the form of tears.  Hip openers seem to hit the tear trigger for me.  This is the area of my body where I’m the least flexible, so I assume that my tension resides here as well as my neck and shoulders.  However, it’s really easy to relax your neck and shoulders, since all you need to do is flex them, but the hips are more difficult.

While I’ve been doing the Sun Salutation for a while now, I realized that wasn’t enough, since I do tend to have flexibility problems. I was able to find my favorite yoga tape on YouTube recently and hence my tears.   I’m so glad that I’ve added to my Yoga routine, and that I’m not insane.  If you don’t do Yoga, you should try it since the benefits just keep adding up.  If you do cry while doing certain poses, just know that you’re not alone.

Keeping Depression at Bay

Here are some quotes for those of us who sign petitions, write letters and still feel depressed about the way the country is going.  Keep up your chins, hold love in your hearts, and keep on hoping for a new day.

What I Have to be Happy About This Week

maxresdefault

I can’t say that this week was so fantastic, however, it was a pretty good week.  I’ve got some pictures of flowers to share from our visit to the Florence Griswold Museum.  I also finally used my “new” steamer, so I’ll share that simple, easy “recipe”, if you can even call it that.  And, best of all, I’ve gotten a new computer that so far I haven’t broken – yay me!

Steamed Vegetables:

I just cut up some squash, zucchini, onions, peppers, broccoli and mushrooms and placed them into the steamer (we have a small one, so I did this a few times), which was already in a pot with an inch or so of boiling water, and steamed the veggies for about two and a half minutes.  Then, I served them on quinoa and brown rice along with some garlic sauce that we had left over from our Chinese meal from the last time we ordered.  You can use any veggies that you want.  It was delicious, if I do say so myself!

The new Destiny add-on dropped this week, and yes, I did play it on Wednesday (the first day it was available).  Fun, fun!  I’m “such” a gamer.

I’m back to working on getting my coaching certificate now that I’ve got a computer.  My goal had been September 30, but now I’m changing it to October 15, since I lost a full week of studying.  Ah, computers – they’re great when they work!

Hope you found something to be happy about this week!  Enjoy your weekend and be happy!
