Christopher Robin and Me

Christopher-Robin-poster-181x270

I recently went to see the movie Christopher Robin.  It was wonderful, and I loved it.  I’ve also got another part of this whole Hundred Acres Wood thing going on, though.  When my mother was pregnant, she was told that I was a boy because my heartbeat was so strong (once upon a time, in a kingdom far far away), so my dad decided my name would be Christopher Robin since he loved the A.A. Milne books as a child.  As you can imagine, it was a bit of a surprise when I was born without the requisite “boy parts”.  Needless to say, my parents were in a bind since they hadn’t come up with any girl names.  Not to put too much of a fine point on it, I was named Christine, since it’s the closest girl’s name to Christopher.

I have always loved the Winnie-the-Pooh books, and being a lonely child, I spent countless hours exploring the Hundred Acre Woods with Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit, Kanga, Roo, Owl and Eeyore.  I had a wonderful childhood spent in fantasies that were altogether real.  What were your favorite playmates when you were young?

Life Update

life-update

I just wanted to update you on what’s been going on lately.  Last weekend I had a sleep-over with a nine-year-old boy who is a friend of the family.  It was an exciting time, since we were also cutting down two very large trees (that needed to be cut down for safety reasons), worked with a wood chipper, and logs to be cut up.  There were plenty of things going on, including hauling tree limbs, and we fit in a two mile walk with the dog.  He was a big help, and we had a lot of fun!

I’ve been struggling with my depression lately and haven’t been getting as much accomplished as I would want.  I’m making an effort to take my St. John’s Wort when I should (I must admit that I don’t always take it three times a day) and working on writing down my goals and trying to accomplish at least some of them on a daily basis.  If any of you have struggled with depression please share how you’ve dealt with it in the comments below, maybe you’ve got some advice that could help others.

And, last, but not least, I’m still looking forward to some more consistent spring weather.  As I’m writing this, I’ve got both fires going because we actually had some freezing rain last night, and it’s still pretty cold outside.  Once it starts to warm up, I can see Spring cleaning happening.  But for now, I won’t be washing windows until it gets a little warmer.  So, what’s going on with you?

Good Old Friday the 13th

Do you believe that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day?  I’m pretty much up in the air about this one, although I did turn 13 on Friday the 13th, and it was a pretty rotten year.  Looking back on it though, I feel that had more to do with being 13 than anything else.  If you believe in the superstition, just steer clear of black cats and don’t walk under ladders!

Happy Monday!

Happy-Monday-Quotes-Tumblr-2

Can Monday be happy?  Yes, of course.  Like everything else in life, there is a choice.  You can choose how you want every day to be.  Do you want to get up and decide that simply everything is going to go wrong because it’s a Monday, and god knows, Mondays can be horrific?  Or, do you want to change that thinking and decide that even though Monday does have its difficulties, you are going to have a good day?  I choose the latter and am going to have a good day!  Hope you do too.

March Goals

march-goals

March is kind of a weird month.  We have snow, mud, cold weather and sometimes warmer temperatures to contend with.  It’s the month where we’re all done with winter, but it’s not all done with us.  So, as I’m more than a little tired of making kindling and hauling wood, one of my goals this month will be to start my Spring Cleaning.  I know, the dreaded Spring Cleaning!  But we all know that it rears its ugly head right around this time.  My plan is to start upstairs with my bedroom and go on from there.  Since I still (always) have more stuff to get rid of, I will be doing that, too.

My other goals are to continue working out, work on my Certificate and website, and also get my novel printed out so I can have it read.  I just dropped out of my writer’s group because there was that one person who insisted the group was supposed to be all about her.  She monopolized every meeting, and I finally couldn’t deal with it.  My goal is to continue writing at least one fiction story (600 words or less) each month.  That’s a hard goal, since it requires you to be concise.  There’s just no room to fool around.  Tell the story and then you’re done!  I really like that, since I have a hard time with being concise.

So, those are my March goals.  What are yours? Let me know in the comments below, and we can encourage each other.

Do You Have Enough Fun?

a-swift-introduction-aka-fun-with-minions-2-638

What do you do for fun?  Anything?  Are you too busy with the business of life to engage in anything that you find fun?  This is a valid question, since life can get too busy, and we have too many obligations to fulfill.

Don’t forgo fun for too long.  Making time to do something fun actually has health benefits.  Not to mention we can all get too cranky if we don’t allow ourselves to have a good time once in a while.  Some benefits to having fun include decreases in stress, increased serotonin levels, increased ability to cope with life, energy boosts, improvements in both your memory and concentration, ability to get a better night’s sleep, and a more positive outlook on life.

So, if you find yourself going too long without having fun, do yourself (and everyone around you) a favor…plan out some fun time.  Go to a funny movie (I recently went to see Jumanji and laughed hysterically), go for a hike, do something that makes you laugh.  Play a game with family and/or friends.  Find something fun to do, and do it.  You won’t regret it.

2017 Year in Review

2017-in-Review-Pixa-and-Adobe.html-1-e1504513702772

This is always one of the most difficult posts for me to write.  I always feel that I’ve not accomplished as much as I wanted to over the past year.  I had separated my goals into sections, the first was focused on organization and meal planning.  I actually succeeded in this area.  I’ve been (for the most part), filing my mail immediately by paying bills as they come in, and then filing everything into the appropriate file folders.  And, I’ve been mostly planning my meals for the coming week on Sundays, and also filling out my shopping list at the same time.

Another area that I had goals for was stress management.  That’s still a work in progress, but I have been listening to wonderful stress-reduction music while I write and read my e-mail.  So, that’s been helpful.  However, I do need to increase my time spent just breathing (which is my version of Yoga breaths).

As far as writing in concerned, I haven’t really gotten anywhere.  I did finish my children’s book, but I’m still working on the illustrations.  So, there was a positive, but also a negative.  I did not work on my novel at all this year.  I never even re-read it.

As far as exercise and health, I tweaked my eating, went no-oil, and lost 23 pounds.  I’ve kept those pounds off, even though I have been having the occasional cookie and piece of cake over the holidays.  As far as exercise is concerned, I have been walking mile a day, however I’ve not been getting up and working out in the morning.  So, again, both a positive and a negative.

As far as my business is concerned, I’ve started to work on my website, but still don’t have my certificates.  I know, I know….

I have done other good things, though.  My closets are all cleaned out as are my drawers and cabinets.  I have bought and hung up curtains in both the living room and dining room.  I’ve taken many boxes and bags of excess “stuff” to the donation center and the swap-shop. So, that’s another positive.

Overall, this year I’ve had about as many positives as negatives.  Not a total loss, but also not a fabulous year as far as goals.  How has your year been?  Let me know in the comments below.
