Cleaning Up the House!

I made a lot of goals for the month of October, and I have fulfilled some of them.  My bathroom closets have been cleaned out and organized.  And I have finished one of my most dreaded tasks – the credenza in the dining room has been cleaned out and organized.  I have taken numerous bags full of old and useless “stuff” to the dump, and I’ve donated other “stuff” to the Swap Shop.  I’ve been able to donate some clothes that are too big (a first!), too.  However, the list does indeed go on and on.  There is much more to do, and so November will be another dumping and organizing month.

I am feeling a little more optimistic, since there are more organized areas in my house to stand and admire.  Yes, I really do that, I open a closet door and tell myself how much better it looks now!  But, I can always find room to improve.  And, there is still so much more to do!

We are coming up on another NaNoWriMo in November, and I will once again be writing.  Also, I have been taking steps to obtain my coaching certificate.  So, there is that.  How are you doing with your October goals?  Let me know in the comments below.

Achieving Fall Goals

I’ve been working on my Fall Goals for the past few weeks.  Some of them were quite easy, and others have been much harder.  I’ve gone through the clothes boxes under my bed, and it was surprising to me how many of them were full of really really old clothes.  I mean clothes that haven’t seen the light of day for many years.  Some of these I kept (since I now fit into them), but the majority of them were given away.

I’ve cleaned out the shower in my downstairs bathroom, and it’s usable again.  That was a huge undertaking, since this meant that I had to empty out the bottom of the closet in there in order to store my many large bottles of water (in case we lose our electricity for weeks again).  There is nothing wrong with being prepared.  That closet still needs to be cleaned out, but the bottom of it is done.  Yay!

None of my closets are walk-in. Can you imagine the mess I could make with that much space?

The closet in my upstairs bathroom is cleaned out.  I’ve taken loads of white (white!) towels to the donation box along with sheets that don’t fit any beds we own.  I don’t know how I end up with this “stuff”, but I do.  I’ve also gone through all my shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste and soap.  This is now organized, and I know what I need (nothing), and where all the accumulated extras are.  I don’t need to buy any of that for quite a while.  Also, I’ve got tons of shaving cream and Q-tips and cotton balls.  All set there!

On the other hand, I still need to have a go at my bedroom closet, and the rest of the downstairs bathroom closet.  I’ll work on the bathroom closet this week, and maybe even the bedroom one, too.

It’s amazing how good it can feel to have some of this done.  Windows still need washing, but my list is getting a little smaller.  How have you been doing with your goals list?  Let me know in the comments below. And, don’t forget to celebrate what you have gotten done!

Fall Goals

I’ve always felt that September was a time for new beginnings.  It’s probably because school starts in September and that’s a new beginning.  Anyway, I find myself shaking the sand of summer off my feet and gearing up toward my fall goals.  I have actually been thinking about how I want to organize my daily life so that I can get more accomplished each day.  This is a goal that I feel like is going to take some major work to put into effect.  I feel like I’m wasting a lot of time during the day so I want to stop that.  That is probably the most important goal for me.  However, there are many other things that I want to accomplish this fall.

Of course, like most people I need to accomplish my fall cleaning.  I’ve been working on de-cluttering the house, but I haven’t gotten as far as I’d like over the summer.  I’ll be continuing that while at the same time doing the dreaded window-washing, furniture moving and deep cleaning that needs to be done.

Another major goal is to write creatively each day for at least one hour, but hopefully two. There are a lot of projects that I’d like to both finish, and start.  I’ll let you know more about these writing projects at a later date.

My last “big” fall goal is to get my business up and running.  Again, I’ll write more about that once I feel like I know what I’m doing.  Okay, I never really know what I’m doing, but I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed right now.

Those are the biggest fall goals (thank goodness fall lasts for a while).  What are your goals?  Do you have anything really big that you plan on accomplishing?  Let me know in the comments below.

School Starting, Endings, Goals and Hopes

The girls I babysit for have left. They started back to school today. Even though most people make New Year’s Resolutions on January 1st, I make some at this time of year also. After a summer of doing most things on someone else’s schedule, now it’s time to do them on mine. With the hope of autumn in the air, I want to make some resolutions now.

On the home-front, I need to start Fall Cleaning. Those windows are dirty after a long summer of heat, humidity and rain. The dust has accumulated to the point of almost no return, and the detritus of everyday life is threatening to create an avalanche of gigantic proportions.  I’ve discovered a YouTube organization lady that I’ve found helpful. Here is her link: https://www.youtube.com/user/HomeOrganizing  – She’s got great ideas that don’t cost too much.

Lack of organization in my life is a real issue that I’d like to finally confront and overcome.  Think Xena outwitting Ares, if you will.  However, the problem with keep things organized is that just like Ares, the paperwork keeps coming back!

So, right now those cleaning, prioritizing and organizing things are the most important on my schedule.  Until I get them under control.  After that, I’ve got to get into the more creative side of life.  Creativity is much more fun then organization and cleaning, which is why I need to do those first!
