Hey, Guess What? Climate Change is Real! – A Little Rant for Climate Change Deniers

800px_COLOURBOX18754236

This is for those people out there who “don’t believe in climate change”.  Well, guess what, it’s real, it exists and no matter where you live, or whatever rock you want to climb under, your, yes, your, life is going to be impacted.  Have fun with that.

I know, Rush Limbaugh told you all that Hurricane Irma was a big fat lie.  But then what did the illustrious Mr. Limbaugh do?  He ran away.  Yes, that’s right…if it was a big lie, why oh why did the man feel the need to evacuate?  Do people usually evacuate due to a big fake storm?  Logically you wouldn’t think so, but hey climate change deniers, since when have you let logic, science or common sense have anything to do with your thought processes?  After all, if someone repeats a lie often enough, and loud enough, it’s got to be true, right?  Right?  Wait a minute, I can’t hear you over all the yelling about the hoax that climate change is.

So, 90-something percent of the world’s (yes, the WORLD’S) scientists believe in climate change.  The scientists who don’t are bought and paid for by the oil companies.  Yes, there are those pesky little leaked memos from the oil companies admitting they knew and understood they were making climate change worse forty years ago.  Yup, and all of that counts for nothing, because you, hard-core climate change deniers that you are, say so.  Once again, logic, science and common sense have no place in your thinking.

So, God has been pretty busy, I bet.  We’ve had four hurricanes in two weeks.  One after another.  Harvey, Irma, Jose and Katia.  Caused by?  Well, who knows, it’s all fake news anyway.  And, those fires that are burning in the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Oregon, Montana, Nevada, Idaho, and Washington, I suppose those are also fake news.  Besides, if the country is burning, climate change and drought have not one thing to do with it.  Climate change is fake news!   Okay climate change deniers, what say you?  Can you logically, scientifically and using your common sense, continue to deny?  Let me know in the comments below.  Oh, and before you do so, please please check out the links that I’ve left below.  They are full of logic, lots of scientific facts and common sense.   I am looking forward to your scientific logic in your comments proving that your status as a climate change denier is valid.   Good luck with that.

What is a Pre-existing Condition?

sickness1

There has been a lot of talk about pre-existing conditions, what they are and if people who have them can be denied health insurance, or be made to pay more for health insurance.  A pre-existing condition is anything medical that happened before a person’s health care policy went into effect.   In the bad old days, before the ACA, health insurance companies could refuse to sell policies to people who were sick, or who had been sick.  There were companies who did sell policies to these people, however the cost was much too high for the average person to pay.  With the ACA, these people were able to buy policies for about the same price that the average “healthy” person could.  With the advent of TrumpCare, these pre-existing conditions don’t need to be covered by insurance companies.  Here is a list of some of these conditions that no longer will be covered.

As you can see, a lot of people have these conditions.  For example, I was born of with a heart murmur and I have had asthma in the past.  Heart murmurs, as I understand it, can be a crap-shoot.  It’s a 50/50 chance of needing a medical intervention.  I never even knew I had one until I was pregnant, then I was told that I’d had it all my life – go figure.

What do you think about these pre-existing conditions?  Are you in danger of losing your health care?  If you do lose it what will you do about it?  Let me know in the comments below.

“Fight Club”- FOAK and What it Means

wgbillboard

The Southern Poverty Law Center tracks such things as hate crimes, terrorism, and white supremacists.  They are a well-respected organization and committed to dealing with facts.  As most of us know, there are a lot of white supremacist organizations throughout the U.S.  What a lot of people don’t know, is that there is a lot of talk within these organizations about military operations against various groups of U.S. citizens.  All a person has to do is look at some recent events to see that this is true.

However, the specific issue at hand is the formation of a new group, by Kyle Chapman (I am leaving a link below where you can see who and what Kyle Chapman is) which will be a “highly masculine” group called the Fraternal Order of Alt-Knights (otherwise known as FOAK’s) which is going to be formed for the express purpose to “bring the fight to the streets”.  Recently we have seen an uptick in the violence that protestors are being met with, not only from the police, but also from these groups of the extreme right-wing.

I am not going to regurgitate the links that I’ve provided.  Instead I am encouraging you to read them, and educate yourself.  With the fear of being seen as a lunatic conspiracy theorist, my thoughts are leading to this:  What if, with all the new violence, the President declares Military Rule, Democracy is suspended and we have a dictator?  I know, it sounds insane, however, don’t these various groups vowing to “fight” against protestors (and others) sound a lot like the Nazi Brown Shirts?  Let me know what you think.

Unity

The only way to fight injustice in the world is make sure that we fight for all who are in need of it.  That means that we need to stand up not only for ourselves and our own concerns, but we must stand up for all the others who are marginalized.  We must stand and resist together.  It’s the only way change will occur.

International Women’s Day

international-womens-day-logo

When I was initially talking to my husband about International Women’s Day he wondered why women needed one.  At first I was taken aback.  Seriously?  Then I realized that he looks at the world in only one way – as a man.  So, I thought that I’d make a list of why there needs to be an International Women’s Day.

Equality – women in general are paid less, however that’s only the tip of the iceberg.  Maternity leave is not a paid for; as well as a higher cost of health insurance for being a woman.  Clothing marketed exclusively for woman is sold at a higher cost.

http-_mashable-com_wp-content_gallery_international-womens-day_malala-yousafzai

Poverty – women and children are the largest group worldwide to live in poverty.  At any given time 795 million people go to bed hungry.  This number is on the rise due to war and the number of refugees.  More women and children live in poverty than any other group.

Restriction of Rights – women’s rights around the world are restricted in various ways.  Some include how they are “allowed” to dress; whether they can attend school, drive or even leave their houses by themselves; in some areas women are restricted from voting and owning property.   A woman’s right to many forms of health care has been restricted.  In many countries the kinds of work that a woman can legally perform is restricted by law.

Violence – girls as young as 12 are routinely married in many countries; rape and domestic violence against girls and women is rising worldwide.  Sex trafficking has become rampant world-wide.

These are just a few of the reasons that there is an International Women’s Day.

Signs

img_2935

This is one of those signs that everyone should think about and reflect on.  States are drug testing welfare recipients.  While this testing costs a lot of money, few people have been found to have taken drugs.  That money could have been used for other social welfare projects.  Also, there are a few bills in both state and federal legislatures to stop the free lunch and breakfast programs.  Wrap your head around that…a lot of people want children to go hungry.

Standing Rock is just one example of an oil companies’ profits outweighing the right to clean water and air.  Money over people.  The head of the EPA wants to dismantle it.  Does anyone remember why there was a movie about Erin Brockovich?

Refugees are now leaving the U.S. and walking into Canada.  I never thought that people would need to leave the U.S. in order to be safe.  My question, and it should be your question also, who is next?  The LBGTQ+ community?  The reporters who report the truth?  The Jewish community?  Minorities, any minority take your pick.  People who blog about these issues?  The potential list could go on and on.

Lastly, but not least, health care supposedly is not a right.  The U.S. in one of a few countries (and none of them are considered “first world” countries), that do not have universal health care.  We also spend more, by far, on the health care that we do have.  So, what your rights include is,  the right to die from not enough money to pay for health care.  Yes, that’s right.  Death is your right.  That’s what freedom is – apparently.

Martin Luther King, Jr. – A Hero for All

theimpossibledreamquote

Today is the day that we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  I’m ancient enough to remember Dr. King from the news, and the one thing about him that I’ll never forget is his “I’ve got a dream” speech.  At some point around the same time, I watched the movie Don Quixote de la Mancha”, with Peter O’Toole in the main role. The song “The Impossible Dream” also lives in my head, and I often think about it.  The two are inextricably linked in my mind, and whenever I think of Dr. King, I also picture Don Quixote tilting at his windmills.  Is not the search for equality, justice, compassion and understanding also tilting at windmills in our society?

kingspeechquote

So, it’s been forty-eight long years since this great man was assassinated.  I remember when it happened, and I can recall thinking, as only a very young child can, what was wrong with the person who killed him, and what was wrong with the people who celebrated it.  To me, he was a hero.  A person who wanted only equality, justice, compassion and understanding.  I still wonder how some people can be against that.  What is wrong with equality, justice, compassion and understanding.  Does equality take away?  Of course not, it makes life better for all.  What is done to one, can be done to all.  I’ll take equality, justice, compassion and understanding over anything else that is out there.  Wouldn’t you?
