Some Recent Pictures

I’ve been looking forward to fall, but our weather has been crazy.  First, we’ll have a day or so of fall weather, and then we’re back into the upper 70’s or even the upper 80’s.  However, here are a few of the photos that I’ve taken. Hopefully the leaves will change a little more before they all fall off, and I’ll be able to get a few more fall-like pictures.

Looking for Happiness

This week was rather difficult.  I got a large unexpected credit card bill, actually, this brought the grand total of my recent credit card bills up to over two thousand dollars, over the course of the last three months.  That was what was on top of the past due amount of over three thousand dollars.  This is the last card that I have to pay off, however at this rate I’ll never do it.  I feel like Sisyphus, and my free-spending husband is the rock.  This is what happens when you get married to someone whose money-management skills caused the rent to be over-due by three months, and the electric to be shut off due to non-payment in the fourth month after you married.  Needless to say, I pay the bills now.

But, I digress.  The recent past included the wonderful experience of my first Thanksgiving with Tofurky.  I couldn’t believe how good it tasted, and the smell of the spices cooking filled my house with deliciousness.  It has taken all these years for Tofurky to make an appearance at my local grocery store.  It was one of those mystical beasts that we’d always heard of, but never seen.  Our Thanksgiving dinner was peaceful and filled with love.  I hope that yours was also.

Another happy occurrence was that we finally got some rain.  Not a lot, but some.  And, since we’re in an extreme drought, that was a good thing!  In my town, some people have lost their wells, and they’ve had to have the well-driller come and drill deeper.  Luckily, we’ve got a deep well, but this is still a little bit of worry for me.  Yes, I am a real world-class worrier.

The leaves are finally picked up.  We had some really high winds, and it cleaned most of them out.  What’s left will probably not come down until spring.  So, another fall related chore is done!   What are some of your wonderful happy things that have taken place recently?  Share them in the comments below.

Looking for a Little Happiness

The past week or so has been a little bit difficult both within my home and outside of it.  However, I’ve been collecting the wonderful things that have happened.

One of them is the fact that my library re-opened and I’ve been spending the entire day on Saturdays there writing away on my NaNoWriMo.  Yay me!  Another good thing was that my daughter and I were able to go to the restaurant Not Just Juice which serves both vegetarian and vegan food.  Yum!

Since the weather is getting a bit colder, I made my Butternut Squash soup for the first time this season.  I’ve been looking forward to making more soups and stews with the cold coming.  What a treat this was after a long Spring and Summer of hot-weather salads and other dinners for the hot weather.  Comfort food here I come!

As a way to “hide” from the cruel cruel world, I’ve been trying to read more than usual.  So, here are some of the books that I’ve recently finished.

And, of course to round this all off, there is the lovely little thing called nature that is all around us.  Here are a few of the pictures that I’ve taken recently.

What have you been doing in order to find that all illusive thing called happiness?

The Solace of Nature

I’ve written quite a lot about nature.  I love it, find that time spent enjoying nature, even looking at pictures of nature makes me feel so much better.  I’ve been taking pictures of my yard lately and thought that I’d share some of them with you.

This last picture is my favorite.  I still can’t believe that it came out like this.  I had woken up to a foggy morning.  Hope you enjoyed them.

Why Can’t I Hibernate?

I love fall. It’s unbelievably beautiful with the leaves changing colors, and the air so crisp. I also enjoy seeing the squirrels and chipmunks gathering in their nuts for their winter hibernation. The acorns and black walnuts have been falling at an almost alarming rate. My car has been dinged this year, and when I go for a walk, I can’t believe that I haven’t been dinged on the head. With the amount of nuts on the ground, the size of them, and how early they started to fall, I can only surmise that we’re going to have a doozy of a winter.

So, here is my question. Why can’t I hibernate, too? I want to. I want to just sleep, eat and drink tea and read books all winter. Because our library has closed for a month; only to re-open in a smaller space while renovations are occurring, I stocked up on a pile of books. I could just go and get a huge pile of books and happily hibernate for the winter. That sounds like heaven. I would be able to ignore all the bad news; all the negative people; and live in reader heaven. Yes, yes, bring on the hibernation!
